Honoring a Legacy: The 11th Annual Jerry "Pops" Whitaker Memorial Golf Tournament

On the greens of East Texas, something far greater than a golf tournament takes place each year. Hosted by Jimbeaux Whitaker, Youth Pastor at Church Under A Bridge and Director of 41 Ministries, the Jerry "Pops" Whitaker Memorial Golf Tournament has become a treasured tradition of faith, fellowship, and life-changing impact.

Now in its 11th year, the tournament welcomes more than 60 golfers annually. But the true victory is not measured in strokes or trophies—it’s measured in the number of young lives transformed.

Changing Lives Through Camp

The funds raised each year go directly toward sending students to youth camp—an opportunity many of them might never have without this outreach. On average, the tournament sponsors 20–25 kids to attend camp in Ruston, Louisiana, where they take part in fellowship, worship, and community service.

For these teens, camp is more than a week away; it’s a place where they encounter God in powerful ways, build lifelong friendships, and discover their purpose. Many return home forever changed, carrying with them the spark of hope and faith that will guide their steps long after camp ends.

A Legacy of Love and Service

The tournament is named in memory of Jerry “Pops” Whitaker, whose heart for ministry and love for young people continue

ree

to inspire this mission. Each year, golfers, sponsors, and volunteers come together not just to play a game but to honor that legacy by investing in the next generation.

More Than Golf

What makes this event so special is the way it combines community and cause. Local golfers enjoy a day of camaraderie and friendly competition, all while knowing their participation is opening doors for teens to experience something life-changing. It’s a reminder that when we rally around a common purpose, we can impact lives in ways that reach far beyond the course.
